Wolves and Villa set to go head-to-head in battle for non-league teenage prodigy

Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers have been named as the clubs reportedly interested in signing teenage centre back Sam Hughes from Chester FC.

The Chester Academy graduate is rumoured to have caught the attention of higher-league clubs with his recent performances for the non-league side, with rivals Villa and Wolves set to battle it out for the youngsters signature in summer.

The 19 year old’s contract runs out at the end of the season and local newspapers have reported that the defender is looking for a new club once this contract has run out.

Villa boss Steve Bruce did reveal in a press conference that he will not be making wholesale changes to his squad in the summer window, however it is believed that the youngster is one of few names to be on his list for possible targets.

At just 19 years old Sam Hughes certainly seems to carry the potential of a future star after making regular first team action for Chester this season, and with the strong midlands derby between Wolves and Villa the two clubs will be even more eager to secure his signature once summer arrives.
